Taggart leaves Western Kentucky for South Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ? Willie Taggart has been hired as South Florida's new football coach after establishing himself as one of the nation's top young prospects by turning a losing program around at Western Kentucky.

USF scheduled a news conference for Saturday afternoon to introduce the 36-year-old, who grew up in the Tampa Bay area before heading off to play and later coach at Western Kentucky. He replaces Skip Holtz, who was fired following the worst season in USF's 16-year history.

Taggart led Western Kentucky to 7-5 record this season. The Hilltoppers will make their first bowl appearance against Central Michigan in the Little Caesars Bowl.

The former assistant to Jim Harbaugh takes over a program that went 16-21 under Holtz, who dropped nine of 10 games following a 2-0 start this season.

Deer Antler Muscle Builder -Recovering formula | Health and Fitness ...

Velvet Deer Antler has been used in oriental medicine for centuries to increase sexual desire and improve sexual performance. Body builders have used Velvet Deer Antler to boost stamina and help maintain muscle health. Deer antler is harvested from deer?s raised on ranches. At the ideal time of the year, the antlers are removed and specially processed to make the natural components bio available to the human body.

There are two different types of muscular hypertrophy: sarcoplasmic and myofibrillar. During sarcoplasmic hypertrophy, the volume of sarcoplasmic fluid in the muscle cell increases with no accompanying increase in muscular strength. During myofibrillar hypertrophy, actin and myosin contractile proteins increase in number and add to muscular strength as well as a small increase in the size of the muscle. The positive benefits of Deer Antler can help with both sarcoplasmic and myofirbillar muscle building. Each of the two phases can contribute to muscle damage. Muscle swelling, as a result of fluid accumulation and immune cell delivery, occurs almost immediately after exercise. This swelling typically lasts 3-4 days but may take as many as 7 to subside. This swelling is associated with muscle stiffness and a decreased range of motion. The muscle recovery benefits of Deer Antler target this phase of your workout: it?s geared towards helping the muscle swelling subside more efficiently, allowing you to pick up the exercise faster.

For years, doctors have warned about the dangers of taking steroids and other performance enhancing drugs to help you build muscle. The negative side effects are not worth the increased muscle you can get from using them.
Because of this, Doctors encourage many patients to turn to natural alternatives, like Deer Antler, to help them with their muscle growth. Natural Supplements pose no risk of side effects or hazards to the health, which is why doctors prefer them over steroids and human growth hormone. Natural Supplements are a healthy alternative to many performance enhancing drugs.

Nutritional Support For Joint Structure and Function

The first health care claim of deer velvet antler to be substantiated by scientific evidence, in compliance with US Food and Drug Administration dietary supplement regulations, was announced by the North American Elk Breeders Association (NAEBA) recently. Executive Director Ben Coplan said the determination, made by two consulting firms hired by NAEBA, Nutrinfo of Watertown, Massachusetts and Tradeworks Group, Inc. of Brattleboro, Vermont, is a significant breakthrough for the nation?s 1,400 breeders of farm-raised elk.

According to Coplan, the Nutrinfo report states there is a reasonable basis to claim that velvet antler helps relieve the symptoms of arthritis. However, a disease claim may not be used for a dietary supplement in the US; therefore, the acceptable statement for product labels and advertisements of a dietary supplement would be ?provides nutritional support for joint structure and function.?

?This determination, by two of the leading dietary supplement firms in the world, is ?just what the doctor ordered? for the members of our growing agricultural industry,? Coplan said.

Many studies have shown most of the carbohydrate in antler is proteoglycan, which is a combination of protein and carbohydrate. The carbohydrate portion is primarily glycosaminoglycan, of which chondroitin sulfate is by far the predominant constituent. One study cited by the Nutrinfo report evaluated the clinical efficacy of chondroitin sulfate in knee osteoarthritis. Treatment with 3 X 400 mg doses per day for 90 days provided significant relief from symptoms as reported by patients. ?We intend to research and substantiate other health benefit claims for velvet antler,? Coplan said.

?We want to carefully research the potential benefits of velvet antler supplements for supporting the immune system, anti-aging, muscle strength and endurance, and sexual vitality.?

Deer velvet antler has been highly regarded in traditional oriental medicine for two thousand years. It is consumed regularly by people of Japan, Taiwan, Korea and Hong Kong as a highly prized medicinal drug to treat blood loss, weakness, and chronic joint pain. Scientific studies in Canada and New Zealand are now verifying the health benefits of this important supplement.

?The scientific-backed health benefit claim will greatly expand marketing opportunities for velvet antler dietary supplements in the United States,? Coplan stated.

The FDA in the United States regulates claims for dietary supplements through a process, which is different than for medicinal drugs; it does not ?approve? dietary supplements, but allows producers to substantiate structure/function claims through critical review of scientific studies.

In North America, farmers and ranchers raise approximately 110,000 elk, the largest of the deer family. Historically, the velvet antler harvested by North American farmers has been exported to Asian countries. As the natural foods and dietary supplement market has expanded in the U.S., farmers have turned their attention to the domestic market. Association headquarters is in Platte City, Mo.Copies of the scientific report on velvet antler are available from the NAEBA office. From: North American Elk Breeders Association

ECB rate cut possible following "serious" debate

BRATISLAVA/FRANKFURT (Reuters) - A European Central Bank policymaker said on Friday the bank had had a "very serious" debate about cutting interest rates this week and that a cut was possible next year if the euro zone economy does not pick up.

The German and Austrian central banks separately suggested such a pick up is unlikely, forecasting scant growth in their economies in 2013.

The ECB kept interest rates on hold on Thursday, but Governing Council members held "a wide discussion" about cutting interest rates from their current record low of 0.75 percent.

Jozef Makuch, one of the Council members, used the term "very serious" on Friday to describe the debate.

"If the situation does not improve, and there is relatively a small chance there will be a significant improvement, it is possible to expect a move in interest rates next year," said Makuch, who is also the governor of Slovakia's central bank.

The latest growth forecasts paint a gloomy picture.

The Bundesbank expects Germany's economy to grow just 0.4 percent next year, down from a June forecast of 1.6 percent. The new projection is marked by "a high degree of uncertainty", it added, and "the balance of risks is on the downside".

Austria's central bank cut its 2013 growth forecast for the country's export-dependent economy to 0.5 percent from the 1.7 percent it had expected in June, due to the global downturn, weak investment and sluggish consumer spending.

The downward revisions come a day after the ECB lowered its forecasts for next year, pointing to weaker growth prospects for the bloc's core countries such as Germany, France and the Netherlands.

"Given the difficult economic situation in some euro-area countries and widespread uncertainty, economic growth will be lower than previously assumed," the Bundesbank said.

"The cyclical outlook for the German economy has dimmed. Enterprises are cutting back their investment and hiring fewer new staff," the German central bank added.

Germany has been a key growth driver of the euro zone, now in its second recession since 2009, but the country's resilience to the crisis is wearing thin and the central bank's new projections reflect this.

Germany could even enter a recession -- defined as two consecutive quarters of negative growth -- the Bundesbank said: "There are even indications that economic activity may fall in the final quarter of 2012 and the first quarter of 2013."

The euro, which had dropped earlier in the day against the dollar after the growth forecasts were published, extended its fall after Makuch's comments.

Economists expect the German economy to contract in the fourth quarter but to improve as soon as in the first quarter.

"The Bundesbank is quite negative about next year," said ABN Amro economist Aline Schuiling. "What we are currently seeing is more and more evidence that the global industrial cycle is bottoming out."

INDUSTRY SUFFERS

Industrial orders and output have dropped in recent months, with exports falling at their fastest pace since late last year.

German industrial production fell by a much steeper-than-expected 2.6 percent in October, weighed down by weaker output in the construction sector and in investment goods, Economy Ministry data showed on Friday.

Auto industry association VDA said on Tuesday German new car sales could fall to the second-lowest level in more than two decades next year, as demand is hit by the euro zone crisis.

But some German economic data over recent weeks has been encouraging, with business morale rising for the first time in seven months and unemployment growing less than expected.

In Berlin, the German government was cautiously optimistic the economy will continue to grow.

"We have no doubt that we are still growing," Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman Steffen Seibert told reporters. "There are many indicators and they don't all point to a recession. The government is cautiously optimistic that we'll keep growing."

The Bundesbank said the slowing of the global economy, as well as recessions in other euro zone countries, were dragging on the German economy. But "the Bundesbank does not see a protracted slowdown but instead anticipates a return to growth path soon", it added, forecasting 2014 growth of 1.9 percent.

Austria's central bank forecast its economy would grow by 1.7 percent in 2014.

Austrian central bank chief Ewald Nowotny said his bank assumed the euro zone economy would reach its nadir in the fourth quarter, but past experience had shown expectations were not always met on time. "I hope this is not the case but I cannot rule it out," Nowotny said.

New genetic pathway behind neurodevelopmental disorders discovered

ScienceDaily (Dec. 6, 2012) ? Researchers at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute, have discovered a new genetic process that could one day provide a novel target for the treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders, such as intellectual disability and autism.

The research study, which appears in the December issue of the American Journal of Human Genetics, was led by Carl Ernst, a Douglas Institute researcher, an assistant professor in McGill's Department of Psychiatry and a Canada Research Chair in Psychiatric Genetics. Ernst and his colleagues found that genetic mutations that negatively affect brain development can occur in a gene family of previously unknown function in the human genome.

According to the World Health Organization, neurodevelopmental disorders affect one in six children in industrialized countries. Impairing the growth and development of the brain or central nervous system, neurodevelopmental disorders encompass a broad range of conditions, including developmental delay, autism spectrum disorders and cerebral palsy. People with neurodevelopmental disorders can experience difficulties with language, speech, learning, behaviour, motor skills and memory.

Mutations in genes are thought to underlie many neurodevelopmental disorders, but all genes important for brain development found to date are in a single pathway. Genes are coded in DNA that gives way to RNA, which gives way to protein. Proteins form the functional unit of the body and are the major players in all biological activity. Prior to the current study, all genetic mutations important for neurodevelopmental disorders, occurred in genes that make protein.

The work of Ernst and his research team identified an important shortcut in the process of making functional molecules for brain development. By sequencing the genomes of 200 people with neurodevelopmental disorders and chromosomal abnormalities, and comparing the results to more than 15,000 control samples, the researchers made a surprising discovery: some individuals had mutations in a gene that did not make protein.

"Our discovery tells us that mutations in genes that code only for RNA and do not make protein can have a functional impact and lead to neurodevelopmental abnormalities," Ernst says. "In previous studies of brain development, RNA was just considered a middle player -- one that only served as a template for the production of proteins." By opening up a new area of study involving RNA, Ernst aims to advance understanding of the underlying causes of neurodevelopmental disorders. "We hope to shine a new light on how the brain develops," he says.

Karlie Kloss Native American Costume Removed - Business Insider

Bryan Bedder/Getty Images

The famous Victoria's Secret Fashion Show aired tonight?and included a calendar-themed segment.?

A model represented each month. There was a Valentine for February, a bride for June and a cheerleader for September.?

But when the show skipped from October's witch to December's Santa, Twitter erupted in confusion.?

"What happened to November? Is this a new calendar system I should know about?" tweeted one viewer.?

We were at the show's taping last month and saw Karlie Kloss in a Native American costume for November.?

But after photos of the show began to leak, Victoria's Secret began getting heat for the headdress Kloss was modeling. Some felt it was disrespectful to Native American culture.?

After the snafu, Victoria's Secret released this statement:?

"We are sorry that the Native American headdress replica used in our recent fashion show has upset individuals. We sincerely apologize as we absolutely had no intention to offend anyone. Out of respect, we will not be including the outfit in any broadcast, marketing materials nor in any other way."

Thus, there was no Miss November in the fashion show.?
